Pre-Treatment Care for Microneedling:
To ensure the best results from your micorneedling treatment, proper preparation is essential. Following a few simple guidelines before your appointment helps protect your skin, improve the effectiveness of the treatment, and minimise any side effects. Below, you’ll find everything you need to know to get ready for your session.
Intake:
- Attend a consultation with your microneedling specialist to discuss your medical history, skin type, and treatment expectations
Skincare Products:
- Avoid using strong exfoliants (AHA, BHA, scrubs) 7-10 days before
- Do not undergo laser treatments, chemical peels of facial waxing 7-10 days before
Avoid Sun Exposure:
- Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning/lying in the sun for at least 24 hours before
- Avoid the use of tanning beds at least 1 day before
Medications:
- Avoid blood-thinning medications such as aspirin 3-5 days before treatment
Inform your Specialist:
- Inform your specialist about history of cold sores or any changes in your health or medications since your last appointment
- If you are on regular medication, consult your doctor first
The Day of the Appointment:
- Ensure your skin has no active acne infections, open wounds or irritation
- Arrive with clean skin and no makeup
Post-Treatment Care for Microneedling:
Taking care of your skin after microneedling is just as important as the treatment itself. Proper aftercare helps soothe the skin, promotes healing, and ensures the best possible results. Follow the guidelines below to maintain smooth, healthy skin and avoid irritation or complications.
Gentle Cleansing:
- Do not wash your face vigoursly 12-24 hours after the treatment. Use lukewarm water and a very mild cleanser
Moisturise:
- Your skin will be dry and sensitie after microneedling
- Apply a gentle, fragrance-free moisturiser to keep the skin hydrated; aloe vera or something similar is also possible.
Avoid Excessive Sweating:
- Heavy excercise or excessive sweating can increase inflammation
- Avoid hot showers, saunas, and activities that may cause excessive sweating for 24 hours after the treatment.
Report Adverse Reactions:
- Normal reactions include: mild redness, swelling, itching or peeling
- Report any unexpected or severe reactions, such as blistering or changes in pigmentation, to your specialist
Avoid Touching:
- Avoid touching, scratching or picking at your skin. If necessary, you may gently remove dust or light makeup with a gentle, non-irritating wipe
Sun Protection:
- Avoid direct sunlight for several days after treatment
- Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher on the treated area when going outside.
Skincare Products:
- Avoid makeup for at least 24 hours
- Avoid products containing strong acids (AHA, BHA) or retinoids for at least 48 hours
Follow-Up Appointments:
- Attend any scheduled follow-up appointments as recommended
- Talk to your specialist how many and how frequent the sessions you will need
